Meet the Maker: Our Rug & Cushion Supplier

As many of you may already know, Hunter & Nomad is an eclectic decor store that is made up of a thoughtfully crafted collection of stunning and unique handmade products for you and your home. These pieces are personally designed by founder Annemarie here in Australia, then ethically made and sourced from amazing artisans from around the world.

We are very lucky to have such strong relationships with all of our wonderful suppliers and we’re so proud to sell products that are carefully handmade with love by these talented teams. We love sharing the stories of our suppliers with you all, so that you can learn the backstory behind your purchases and can appreciate all the time, love and care that goes into each and every one of our items!

In this new post from our Meet the Maker interview series with founder Annemarie, we are shining the spotlight on our incredible rug supplier Sahil!

Who is your rug supplier and where are they based?

I work closely with my Indian supplier called Sahil. He has a family owned textile company based in Panipat which is 90 km north of Delhi. Panipat is famous in India by the name of "City of Weavers" and "Textile City". Sahil's business is SA8000 & ISO9001:2015 accredited, which stands for social accountability and for great quality management. We are very proud to contribute and support their local community by providing them with continuous work.

One of Sahil's artisans working in the factory in India, where they produce their beautiful handmade rugs.

How did you discover them?

Sahil contacted me through Instagram and offered to make some samples to see the quality of his products. I was looking to create the beautiful dot rug I had imagined in my head for so long and this was the first product we produced together.

What makes this supplier unique?

Sahil and I have been working together for 3 years now and we have built up a great business relationship. He never shies away from new product ideas that might seem challenging to make at first. He will always be 100% committed to the job I give him. It has taken us a while to get the products right, like working out colours and designs and making sure they are 100% right has been challenging at times. Especially when you work with only photos/ pantone colours and not being physically there to discuss designs with him.

What do you love most about working with them?

Sahil is a very reliable supplier. He is a great and fast communicator and his flexible work ethic has made it possible for us to grow in such a great way. My dream is to visit the factory one day and meet all the amazing artisans and Sahil and create some new designs together.

Which beautiful products do they create for you?

All our cotton and wool rugs, cushions and our newest product the shell cushions are made by Sahil's team of artisans.

Our newest item from Sahil: the shell cushions in 6 different vibrant and beautiful colours!

Which is your favourite product from them?

My favourite would have to be the cotton dot rug. This product has really brought Hunter & Nomad to that next level in our business.

Annemarie's favourite product from Sahil, the natural dot rugs.
