7 Ways To Be Eco-Friendly This Summer

7 Ways To Be Eco-Friendly This Summer

There are so many things to love about summer in Australia. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world, with so many unique corners to explore and adventures to be had in this gorgeous climate. I’m sure we can all agree that preserving this country and all its treasures for our children’s children to explore in their summers should be something we are all conscious of and prioritise, as well as educate our children about.

With this in mind, we’ve decided to put together a list of 7 super easy ways to be a little more eco-friendly this summer! Some of the ideas you may have already been aware of (or even better - you might be doing them already) but hopefully our reminder will jog your memory and help to keep the preservation of our beautiful planet at the forefront of your mind!

  1. Find out when your local Farmers’ Market is taking place and head there to get some seasonal, local produce for your weekly food shop or special events. Ditch the plastic bags and use our reusable net bags for your groceries instead!
  2. Get the kids involved in outdoor activities to help them learn and appreciate their environment. We love nature scavenger hunts and planting native plants or fruit and veggies in the garden.
  3. It’s no secret that Aussies love a BBQ and picnic! But these can often leave a trail of plastic mess behind them, so aim to make these as waste free as possible. Ditch the single use cutlery, straws, cups and plastic bags and replace with eco-friendly items like bamboo straws, metal cutlery and our sturdy reusable tote bags! We also recommend taking home made food or food from the farmers’ market instead of shop bought processed food.
  4. Reduce your carbon footprint by opting to ride your bicycle or walk instead of using your car where possible. It’s better for the environment and better for you!
  5. With that in mind, instead of travelling far and wide, try out a staycation and adventure to your local beaches - or even try camping in your back garden! Keep yourself cool with our eco-friendly handwoven straw fans.
  6. Unplug! Use technology and electricity a little less and soak up the time with your family and friends. If it's rainy and you’re stuck indoors, try using eco-friendly toys that don't require electricity such as puzzles, board games, books or arts and crafts.
  7. Since you are going to unplug and it's summer... get outside! Go for a hike, a bike ride, swim in the sea, relax in the pool, go surfing, walk the dog… the options are endless!
